Osage Orange – The osage tree (Maclura pomifera) is native to the American midwest and was one of the dominant trees planted in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas to combat the effects of erosion during the Dust Bowl. Over 19 million trees were planted and many of these have become invasive due to their hardiness and extensive root systems. We obtain our osage from a supplier who produces a very thick, yellow colorant from downed wood that is beautiful overdyed with indigo. An easy olive and sage green may be obtained with an iron afterbath.
- 25 ml of Osage Orange extract will dye approximately 400 grams (14 ounces) of fiber to a dark shade
