This week, we’ve got video from our live FEEDBACK FRIDAY featuring natural dyer and artist Cara Marie Piazza. Cara took us through her process foraging for and utilizing flower and food waste in Brooklyn. We also just opened up registration for two online classes with Cara Marie Piazza taking place June 6th and June 27th that you won’t want to miss.
During this FEEDBACK FRIDAY, Cara discussed transforming avocado pits and peels, edible flowers, onion skins, nut shells, and other dye stuffs into dyes. We’ll also talk about how to set up your own home dye kitchen, create a hot extraction bath and turn seemingly discardable parts of your food into liquid gold. Not to be overlooked will be the process of mordanting, making your fabric ready to take the dyes, changing the color of your dye bath with household ingredients and more.

Next week’s live Zoom FEEDBACK FRIDAY is with indigo master Aboubakar Fofana. Aboubakar is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose working mediums include calligraphy, textiles and natural dyes. He is known for his work in reinvigorating and redefining West African indigo dyeing techniques, and much of his focus is devoted to the preservation and reinterpretation of traditional West African textile and natural dyeing techniques and materials.
We are getting some online classes up this week and currently have a 3-day indigo and more to come.
