Join us October 23rd, 9am Pacific, 12 pm Eastern for a live Zoom FEEDBACK FRIDAY with Kristin Arzt of Scrambles Quilts.
We’re excited to have Kristin focus on her journey but also on all the clay paste resist projects she’s been working on.
Kristin Arzt is a natural dyer, educator, gardener and designer based in Oakland, California. Kristin believes that by exploring the collision of textiles, plants and sustainability, she can help make the study of natural dyes accessible to everyone through education and enthusiasm. She is the Textiles Department Head at The Crucible, a non-profit organization dedicated to making arts education accessible to local youth and the surrounding community.
When not teaching in-person and online courses, Kristin grows her own seasonal dye plants in her home garden for closer experimentation; often sharing seeds and sprouts with students. After becoming enamored with the world of natural color, Kristin has taken years to expand her toolkit, traveling far and wide to learn directly with specialized teachers in the dye community. She has studied with Kathy Hattori, Catharine Ellis, Joy Boutrup, and many more amazing instructors.
We sell Kristin’s *Instant* Natural Indigo + Shibori Kit on our site. The kit includes all of the ingredients you need for an at-home natural indigo vat and shibori accessories to create beautiful resist patterns on natural fibers. Just add hot water to the dry ingredients and you’ll have your own natural fructose indigo vat in one hour! This kit makes for the perfect gift or fun activity to share with friends.
If you are not familiar with FEEDBACK FRIDAY, every week, we speak with dyers, artists, scientists and scholars about our favorite topic, natural dyeing and color. Curated by Amy DuFault, Botanical Colors’ Sustainability and Social Media Director and presented by Botanical Colors’ Founder Kathy Hattori.
