We are so excited to be carrying Dyer’s Chamomile seeds (Cota tinctoria) from Grand Prismatic Seed!
Grand Prismatic says:
Dyer’s Chamomile is an extremely productive perennial dye plant. The yellows obtained from dry or fresh flowers are strong and crisp. EXCELLENT for over-dyeing with cochineal or indigo. It’s also much more light fast than many yellow dyes. In addition, the plants themselves are beautiful and low maintenance. Little pops of sunshine with lovely greenish blue dissected leaves. Attracts beneficial insects like soldier beetles and syrphid flies.
Dyer’s Chamomile Seed Packet: 300 seeds
ABOUT THE FARMERS:
James Young and Guy Banner are the co-owners and farmers of Grand Prismatic Seed. Above all, they made a commitment to grow high quality open pollinated seeds. In addition, their seeds can withstand the stresses associated with high desert crop production. Similarly, they expect to release new vegetable varieties adapted to the Intermountain West. James has a passion for growing natural dye plants/seeds. So he learned his seedy ways from Wild Garden Seed in Philomath, Oregon. Guy has an affinity for medicinal herbs and plants native to the Great Basin, Intermountain West, and Colorado Plateau. He has an extensive background. For instance, it includes ethnobotany and habitat restoration, agroecology, native seed production, and ornamental gardening.
