We are excited to offer a limited supply of organic indigo from South India, one of the traditional indigo growing areas in the world. This indigo is processed using large soaking tubs, an alkali and constant aeration to create the pigment, which is cut into cakes and then ground. The result is a fine powder that still retains some of the plant matter and creates a vigorous vat when using the 1-2-3 or fermentation method. This indigo has a much stronger compost aroma and creates a lovely deep blue. Its indigo content is about 40% which is still extremely strong.
We have found that this indigo works beautifully in a 1-2-3 vat and are pleased with the results. Sold in 100 and 250 gram packages only.
For those who wish to make an indigo vat without strong chemicals, check out our blog post on how to create a natural indigo vat using fructose powder (fruit sugar) and pickling lime (calcium hydroxide).
