Coreopsis tinctoria

Dyer’s coreopsis, also called golden tickseed, is a beautiful, prolific grower, rewarding the gardener with masses of flowers.  Harvest the flower in full bloom, and pack a jar full of them for easy solar dyeing.  In her book, “Harvesting Color”, Rebecca Burgess recommends using a ratio of flowers to wool yarn at 1:1 for deepest shades.  You will get more blooms if you regularly deadhead old droopy blossoms, but don’t compost these:  use them in a dyebath or dry them for future dye projects.

bedhead fibers says:

The happiest of flowers, these Dyer’s Coreopsis enjoys the sun, but can be content in partial shade. Direct sow after the fear of frost has passed, spreading evenly. Picking flowers encourages new flower growth. Flowers yield a lovely yellow to golden orange color. Each packet contains about 150 seeds. Native, and pollinator friendly!

All bedhead fiber seeds have been sourced from farms within the US and are non-GMO.
