Consulting with Aboubakar Fofana
Aboubakar Fofana is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. His expertise include calligraphy, textiles and natural dyes. He is known for his work in reinvigorating and redefining West African indigo dyeing techniques. Aboubakar devotes much of his focus to the preservation and reinterpretation of traditional West African textile and natural dyeing traditions and materials. He has exhibited for Documenta 14 and the Jardin Marjorelle in Marrakech. In addition, the Hermes Foundation Skills Academy selected Aboubakar as an artisan for 2019. Yearly he comes to Seattle to teach and work with a group of lucky attendees to experience his method of creating and indigo-based practice. This year, with the Covid-19 pandemic Aboubakar is not able to travel to see us but is opening up opportunities for one-on-one consulting with him.
