We still have two seats available for: John Marsha We still have two seats available for: John Marshall Teaches Stencil Printing with Natural Dyes and Pigments! June 23rd - 26th at our Seattle HQ!

We are thrilled to host our dear friend and natural dye collaborator in a rare in-person appearance and invite you to experience his humor and artistic expertise with Japanese textile and dye techniques. John first apprenticed in traditional Japanese doll-making fresh out of high school and we benefit from his wealth of textile knowledge and techniques.

Ever wonder how those exquisite kimono silk prints from Japan are produced? John will guide you through designing and carving your own stencils using traditional materials as well as giving you the opportunity to work with traditional collections.

We’ll be producing our own pigments and extracts to use in the printing process and supplementing these, as desired, with natural dyes and pigments commonly associated with this ages old process.

The program includes all consumables – dyes, pigments, stencil paper, and silks. It also includes the use of most of the equipment required – stretcher bars, brushes, clamps, and more.

Head to the LEARN section of our website to sign up!
MORDANT MONDAY: Ceriops Tagal. No Mordant Needed. MORDANT MONDAY: Ceriops Tagal. No Mordant Needed.

One of the rich dyes we worked with in Bali is Ceriops Tagal.  A “red” tannin from Indonesia, and a color that is rich in history and traditional use.  We are excited to present it to you again as it was one of our favorite dyes to work with while we were at @threadsoflifebali . This Mordant Monday, Kathy dives into the entire process of how to use this amazing dye. Perfect for the adventurous beginner or intermediate dyer who likes working with time as an ingredient!  Head to our blog for the entire story of this beautiful dye.
Some more behind the scenes from our trip with @th Some more behind the scenes from our trip with @threadsoflifebali . Look at that beautiful indigo flower. Stunning. We can’t wait to go back.
