Petal Pushers Natural Dye Sock Kit

We have designed possibly the easiest, most fun and magical natural dye kit to date. This is the perfect gift for a newbie dyer. Simply add water and let magic take its time.  Get a few and have a party with friends! It would also make a great stocking stuffer (pun intended) for the holidays.

This kit comes with a pair of Mordanted Bamboo Socks, (women’s crew length, size 9-11) and a generous sprinkling of our logwood chips, organically grown marigolds and ground madder roots. Sometimes we’ll add in a few fun accents like dahlias and other dye flowers.

The instructions are simple. We give you two options.

HOT WATER METHOD Boil some water and carefully add enough to fill the jar and let the dyes work their magic. You will see results in as little as 30 minutes, but we recommend you wait an hour (or more) to allow the dyes to become one with the socks. Let cool completely, remove and unroll your eco-printed masterpiece.  Carefully remove and save the dyestuffs (they’re good for additional dye baths). Rinse the socks in cool water

COLD WATER METHOD If you are patient – you can pour lukewarm water into the jar, leave it in a sunny window and come back 1 – 3 days later. Simply take out your socks, save the dyestuffs, if desired, rinse them in cold water and presto! You have beautiful dye-namic naturally dyed socks.

Want to do more?  Save the dye water and the dyestuffs and add other mordanted materials such as our tannin-mordanted sashiko threads, mordanted silk hankies, or our mordanted bandanas.  Dampen the mordanted materials and add to the jar and let it steep for 1-3 days at room temperature, or on a sunny windowsill. Subsequent dye baths will have softer colors.
