Dyer’s Polypore mushroom (Phaeolus schweinitzii) is one of the most common mushrooms in coniferous forests and is a dramatic, large flat mushroom, sometimes as large across as 12-14 inches. It’s always a thrill to come across one in the forest, as it is so huge, and the promise of all that color is very enticing. It’s a wonderful first mushroom to try as it contains a lot of color, and it’s easy to shift color with an iron mordant. The color yield is a brilliant yellow, shifting to dark olive green with an iron after-bath. Be prepared with a lot of mordanted skeins, as this mushroom is a real powerhouse and you will be able to dye with multiple exhaust baths.

Jessica G. foraged some beautiful specimens and we’re offering them for the first time in 25g packages! Head to our site for instructions!

Note: Restock for NY, New England, Colorado and LA due in the next few days! Purchase as a backorder and we’ll ship when it is back in stock. We have Pacific NW, SF, Hawai’i, Texas and Chicago in stock. Thank you!
The Seasonal Color Wheel is a stunning example of color theory. It uses local plant and food sources year-round. Artist, educator, and natural dyer Sasha Duerr crafted these captivating artworks based on regional natural dyes: New York, Chicago-Great Lakes, Hawaii, Los Angeles, SF Bay Area, New England, the Pacific Northwest, Texas, and Colorado.

Each print measures approximately 12 x 18 inches. This Seasonal Color Wheel print is custom-printed so we recommend you measure prior to ordering a mat or frame. The print ships separately in a mailing tube.
