Vintage Japanese Silk Kimono Ready to Dye

We have curated a collection of traditional vintage silk Japanese under kimono that are perfect for at-home loungewear and ready for your creativity. They are suitable for indigo, eco-printing, suraface design, or immersion dyeing.  They are gently washed and mordanted with aluminum potassium sulfate, then steam-pressed.

Each garment is handmade and unique, and they were worn underneath a formal silk kimono. Some of the garments are the classic Japanese crepe weave called chirimen, others are a jacquard weave depicting flowers, clouds, water, or abstract designs. These designs are white on white, and the background color ranges from a creamy white to a very light coral pink or peach. Some of them have hand-painted blossoms or faint pastel shibori patterns on them.

Facts about these silk kimono

• Vintage, pre-worn and some show minor wear and tear and marks.
• Full-length traditional under kimono, made from approximately 12 yards of silk fabric.
• Hand sewn, high quality crepe weave (chirimen) or intricate jacquard patterns.
• Some have attached cotton tie closures, most are open and designed to be worn with a soft obi or tie(not included).
• Some are lined with habotai silk.
• Some have subtle dye highlights or faint shibori patterns.
• The kimono collar can be either silk or cotton fabric.
• The kimono sleeve depth varies but all are for a woman’s kimono with an opening as noted in the diagram below.
• The kimono range from 46″ from neckband to hem, to 54″ from neckband to hem.
