Description
We are so proud to offer naturally dyed cotton fat quarters inspired by Sara Buscaglia’s wonderful book, Farm & Folk Quilt Alchemy. Sara coaxes gradations of colors from one dye bath, and then overdyes with either iron or indigo to create a complex array of amazing shades.
All the fabrics are scoured, mordanted with a tannin (either gallo, quebracho, sumac or walnut) and alum, and then dyed with different natural dye colors. We modified the shades with iron and overdyed with indigo. The result is a beautiful array of related but distinctive shades, perfect for stitching, piecework and patchwork.
Each bundle includes 4, 5 or 6 fat quarters and some comprise of two different tannins. Each fat quarter is a different but related shade to the other colors in its group. The fabric is a cotton calico and is approximately 4.5 ounces per square yard. Please purchase enough for your project as dye lots will vary.
Product notes: The fat quarters have been cut, scoured, pretreated with a tannin, mordanted, dyed in a natural dye and then some have been overdyed in iron or in indigo or in both. The fabric is slightly smaller than a fat quarter as it shrank a bit from the dye process and the edges are serged. Fabric is 100% cotton muslin.
