The Seasonal Color Wheel by Sasha Duerr is a beautiful inspiration of color. It is derived from local plant and food sources throughout the year. Artist, educator and natural dyer, Sasha Duerr has created these tantalizing artworks based on the natural dyes in five local areas:  New York, Hawaii, Los Angeles, SF Bay Area, and now, New England!  So check out what’s seasonal for foraging. Consider how the colors look when used with different mordants as well.

SASHA DUERR is an artist and designer who works with plant-based palettes, natural dyes and place-based recipes. She is a professor at the California College of the Arts with a joint appointment in textiles and fine arts. Therefore, she designs curriculum and teaches courses in the intersection of natural color, slow food, slow fashion and social practice. In addition, she shows her work in galleries and museums across the United States and abroad. In 2007, Sasha founded Permacouture Institute to encourage the exploration of regenerative design practices for fashion and textiles.

Sasha has done extensive work with plant-based palettes. She also works on ecological principles through local land-based sources and community. Her work is featured in publications like the New York TimesAmerican Craft MagazineSelvedge, and the Huffington Post.  Sasha is the author of The Handbook of Natural Plant Dyes (Timber Press/Workman 2011). She is also the author of NATURAL COLOR (Watson-Guptill/Ten Speed Press August 23rd, 2016). She lives with her husband and children on their urban farm in the San Francisco Bay Area.
