The holidays and creative gifting is around the corner. We bundled our most popular cellulose mordant with calcium carbonate and wheat bran so you are ready when inspiration strikes. Aluminum acetate is a purified mordant powder that creates bright colors on plant fibers. It is an alternative mordant to traditional tannins. Mordanting is an important step in natural dyeing as it helps improve light and wash-fastness. Its purpose is to provide a bond between the fiber and the natural dye molecule. Without a mordant bond, natural dye colors will fade, change color and wash out!

Because we recommend using either calcium carbonate (chalk) or wheat bran with aluminum acetate, we have bundled these products together to give you savings when working with this mordant combination!

We love giving you a sneak peak of what's going on behind the scenes of our dye house. Here we have the production from our recent work for @Muskoxfarm .

The nonprofit Musk Ox Farm is dedicated to the gentle husbandry of the musk ox, an Ice Age mammal that once roamed the earth alongside saber-tooth tigers and woolly mammoths. From the Inupiaq language, “Oomingmak,” means “The Bearded One.” This once-endangered animal produces an annual harvest of qiviut (kiv'-ee-yoot), one of the finest natural fibers in the world.

We loved creating these hues for their beautiful products!

Did you miss @Bricopress's Eco-printing Deep Dive Workshop? No worries! You can purchase and watch the recording at your own speed! As fall is upon is this is the perfect way to use all the beautiful windfall around us!

The workshop will be available for 6 months after the workshop date (until April 30, 2026).

Eco-Printing is a bewitching process that uses the natural dye properties of plants to create prints on fabric and paper. In this workshop we will learn the basics and the intricacies of the art of eco-printing on silk and cotton fabrics. We begin with an introduction to the two bedrock principles to getting vivid prints: mordants and contact. Monica reviews the tools needed and discuss foraging and sourcing ideal flowers and foliage for eco-printing.

In this workshop, Monica focuses on using both Aluminum Acetate and Ferrous Sulfate and will demonstrate and compare the use of both. Additionally, she will demonstrate different techniques to achieve varied results from photographic prints to looser abstract designs, taking time to admire both. Monica shows how to lay out designs and patterns on both silk and cotton fibers including tips on how to lay out and prepare garments.
Once the floral designs are on the fibers, Monica demonstrates the best process for rolling, tying, and heating. The unrolling and reveal is the best part of the workshop and Monica compares the results from different approaches and discuss the results. After care tips conclude the session.
