Sale – Gorgeous Vintage Hemp Throws with Mordant Option

We discovered a trove of large, handmade hemp throws and decided to offer them mordanted as a blank canvas for summer dye projects.  These pieces were used in rural Romanian villages as bed covers, but we love them as casual tablecloths, daybed throws, picnic blankets and more.  We professionally dyed a number of these and they take natural colors beautifully.  We’ve also bundle-dyed them and it looks amazing. You can choose to have your throw mordanted (ready for dyeing), or unmordanted.  Simply choose the option in the dropdown box. The vintage hemp throws are handwoven plain weave. Some show wear … Read more

9/17/24 – Aluminum triformate is on order and expected to arrive within 7 business days. Thank you for your patience! It also works on a gpL (grams per Liter) calculation or a weight of fiber (WOF) percentage and we’ve used it successfully with both methods. Each of these methods have their advantages for the artisan dyer. If you want to dip … Read more

Our logwood is in sawdust/wood chip form. Use repeatedly until there is no more color. 100g of logwood chips will dye approximately 600g (24 ounces) of fiber a deep purple shade. There will be enough dye leftover for exhaust baths. For more detailed instructions, please visit our page on logwood chips here. Logwood chips yield a rich, deep purple and we source ours from sustainably managed farms. Logwood by itself is not particularly lightfast, so keep from bright sunlight. Its lightfastness increases and the color darkens to a near black with added iron. If your water is neutral or acidic, … Read more

Print Paste Thickener

Print Paste Thickener

We use organic print paste thickener (replaces Gum Tragacanth*) as a thickener to paint or print with natural dyes on fabric. In addition, it is an organically certified water-soluble carbohydrate gum mixture. Similarly, it performs very well in thickening dyes and pigments for printing and painting. Print paste thickener will dissolve readily in cold or hot water. After that, it forms a smooth translucent paste to mix with powders or liquids. 250 grams of Organic Print Paste Thickener will make approximately 8 liters (two gallons) of thickened paste for painting or printing with natural dyes. *Gum Tragacanth is currently in … Read more
