Video From LIVE FEEDBACK FRIDAY: Threads of Life

This week on FEEDBACK FRIDAY we had Threads of Life Co-Founders William Ingram and Jean Howe. After the presentation, we had a virtual trunk show with Jean that was amazing and showcased all the artisans they work with.

About Threads of Life:

Threads of Life, a Bali-based social enterprise that has worked with over 1000 traditional weavers and their families in 50 communities on 12 Indonesian islands since 1997. As co-director of the Bebali Foundation since 2002 he has led the organization’s support for sustainable use of natural dyes and other non-timber forest products by these same community groups. Through his work he seeks to demonstrate how profitable businesses can have a social mission, how community businesses can be profitable, and how both can be sensitive to the values of indigenous culture.

NEXT WEEK…SALLY FOX!! Sally has been breeding and growing organic naturally colored cottons since 1982 and has spent decades breeding naturally colored cotton. She recently noted that her careful land stewardship has more than doubled the amount of organic matter in her soil over the years as she has built a productive organic farm. Sally also tends a large herd of naturally colored Merino sheep and grows a hardy and delicious Sonoran wheat in the beautiful Capay Valley. Her focus has always been on sound land stewardship and carbon capture and retention and we are proud to carry her quality fabrics.

We will also have another post-FEEDBACK FRIDAY event for our month-long celebration of indigo. Get ready to ask Blue Light Junction’s Kenya Miles and Indigo Shade Map’s Rosa Chang all the questions you’ve got on indigo growing and harvesting!

RSVP for this mega event here.

FEEDBACK FRIDAY

If you are not familiar with FEEDBACK FRIDAY, every week, we speak with dyers, artists, scientists and scholars about our favorite topic, natural dyeing and color. Curated by Amy DuFault, Botanical Colors’ Sustainability Director and presented by Botanical Colors’ Founder Kathy Hattori.

We even have our own theme song thanks to musician Jimmie Snider!

  1. I bought a textile from Threads of Life, and it’s on its way! But I don’t see a way to share a photo. It was a difficult choice. There are so many stunning textiles to choose from.
